From experience, when I have created interest, built enthusiasm, and peeked curiosity in the weeks prior to starting the reading I have maximised the excitement for the Read Aloud so the kids are hanging out to start reading!
You can do this in lots of ways - wall displays (using provocations & questions, images that give clues), book displays (of books that may support the themes in the Read Aloud), a map showing the connected classes and the list goes on.
To support you in the pre-reading stage, I have put together a few ideas which I have used in the past that not only help build excitement but set the class up for success - especially when using online platforms for the first time.
Feel free to use the ideas in the poster and remember to post some examples of what your kids have completed - this is the sharing and connectedness which makes #NZreadaloud. It gives students a different audience.
